The Firenze studio location is closed and the studio is moving to Santa Rosa, California. It will still be a place to play and to learn about book arts, bookbinding, restoration, metalsmithing, marbling, papermaking, other paper arts. We offer a rich environment, a studio to explore for the student of the book and paper - after years of traveling the globe, in furtherance of our own curiosity about this most primal art to civilisation and wanting a place like this to play in.

Kath Florence small

Bookbarnkat studios was born in June, 2013 in the very heart of Florence, Italy at via dell’Amorino 8r. Its owner is Kathryn (Kath) Thomas, a retired business professional from the USA with a lifelong passion for art, now working in bookbinding and restoration. In association with ARA-IT (*), the studio is designed to be a space for students to take classes in bookbinding, restoration, paper arts and metalsmithing from masters from around the world.

Kath invites you to visit the events page to see what is coming up at bookbarnkat studios that may be of interest to you on your next visit.

Just across the street from the studio, there is an art gallery where occasional exhibitions are held in conjunction with activities in the studio. The studio is just two blocks from the Duomo and three blocks from the main train station – in close proximity to hotels, restaurants and shopping.

Kath is a member of many bookbinding associations and has taken classes in bookbinding, restoration, gold-tooling, metalsmithing and other paper arts from well-known instructors all over the USA and the EU for many years.
