Kath Florence smallBookbarnkat studios was born in June, 2013 in the very heart of Florence, Italy at via dell’Amorino 8r. Its owner is Kathryn (Kath) Thomas, a retired business professional from the USA with a lifelong passion for art, now working in bookbinding and restoration.

Kath is a member of many bookbinding associations and has taken classes in bookbinding, restoration, gold-tooling, metalsmithing and other paper arts from well-known instructors all over the USA and the EU for many years.

In Nov 2014, Kath decided to relocate the studio back to Santa Rosa, CA in order to better meet the needs of the many bookbinders in that area and in the greater USA.  After much delay engendered by the West Coast Dockworkers’ labor dispute, she has reopened the studio and welcomes enquiries by instructors looking to run classes, students looking for one-on-one or small group instruction as well as others looking for expert binding and restoration services for their treasures.
