Bookbarnkat studios was born in the heart of Florence Italy in June, 2013. Its owner, Kath Thomas moved the studios to Santa Rosa, CA in 2015 to return to her roots as an artist in that area. Kath is a former business management professional, with a lifelong passion for art and the book, now practicing bookbinding, restoration and other book and paper arts in Northern California and teaching and hosting workshops by masters from around the world.

Kath invites you to visit the events page to see what is coming up at bookbarnkat studios that may be of interest to you on your next visit to the Bay area or to encourage you to visit the studio as a destination for your artistic endeavors. Kath loves to teach customized classes based upon projects or areas of interest at mutual agreement on cost and availability. Bookbarnkat studios will be hosting open work project days on weekends at the studio once a month, where students can drop in for coaching and advice on their individual projects, at a reasonable hourly rate. Kath sells bookbinding tools and materials sourced from all over the world.

Kath is a member of many bookbinding associations and has taken classes in bookbinding, restoration, gold-tooling, metalsmithing and other paper arts from well-known instructors all over the USA and the EU for many years. Kath has and does restore books for private clients and institutions, among them The British Institute Harold Acton Library. Please contact her about your interests.
